While it's common to give flowers on Mother's Day , the truth is that Father's Day also has its official flower . A red rose can be worn on the lapel if the father is alive, and a white rose in his memory if he has passed away.
It took 64 years for Father's Day to become an officially recognized holiday in the United States. It was US President Nixon who recognized the day in 1972. Mother's Day, on the other hand, has been celebrated since 1860 and was officially recognized in 1914.
