Sterling Gold: What is it?

Jewellery pieces are made from precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum in alloy form (alloyed with other metals) to guarantee the technical characteristics necessary for the execution of a piece, such as hardness and color.

The amount of gold present in a jewel's alloy (technically called "gold touch") is indicated by the contrast , which is nothing more than a symbol placed by the Imprensa Nacional Casa da Moeda.

The term "sterling gold" refers to any type of gold permitted by law . In Portugal, this designation refers to a gold alloy that has 19.2 carats , because of 24 parts of the metal alloy, 19.2 are gold, meaning the alloy contains 80% gold (which can be commercially designated as 800 gold, or Portuguese gold).
