FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before pawning your gold or managing an existing loan.

What is a pawn loan?

A pawn loan is a loan granted against gold items used as collateral. It is designed to provide financing in a simple and fast way, without a bank credit-history assessment.

Your items remain safeguarded during the contract and are returned once the outstanding capital and amounts due have been paid.

How can I pawn my gold?

Visit one of our branches with your gold items. The items are assessed in person and the loan proposal is determined based on that valuation.

If you accept the proposal, bring your Citizen Card or, where applicable, your identity card and taxpayer number.

How does the loan work?

The loan is concluded for one month and may be renewed for equal successive periods, up to a maximum of 12 months, under the applicable contractual terms.

Interest due must be paid monthly. Payment may be made by Multibanco, bank transfer to the account stated in the contract, or in person at one of our branches. You may make partial repayments or redeem the loan at any time without additional repayment charges.

What interest rates apply?

The currently published nominal annual rate is 15.81%, plus 0.44% Stamp Duty. Consult the detailed rates document for the conditions in force.

How much will I receive for my items?

An exact value can only be given after an in-person valuation. Gold items are assessed according to karat and weight, taking into account the gold price in force on the day of valuation. Craftsmanship, age and condition may also be considered.

What is the minimum and maximum loan amount?

The minimum financing amount is €100. The maximum depends on the valuation of the item or items offered as collateral.

Do I receive the money immediately?

If you accept the proposal, the loan is concluded immediately. Payment may be made in cash up to €999.99, by bank transfer or by cheque, subject to the applicable rules.

What documents do I need?

You need your Citizen Card or, where applicable, your identity card and taxpayer number.

Where are my items kept?

Pledged items are kept in high-security bank vaults. Pawn contracts concluded with Loja do Ouro also include insurance for the pledged items, under the applicable contractual conditions.

When must I pay the monthly amount?

Payment is due each month on the same calendar day on which the loan was concluded. If that date falls on a weekend or public holiday, it moves to the next business day.

Can I repay part of my loan?

Yes. You may make partial or full repayments at any time without a repayment penalty. When capital is reduced, the corresponding interest burden also decreases.

When can I recover my items?

To redeem your pledged items, you must pay the full outstanding capital and any interest due.

If you wish to collect the items, please notify Loja do Ouro up to 5 business days in advance so their collection from the bank vault can be arranged. You will then be contacted when they are available at the branch where the contract was concluded.

Can I lose my items if I do not pay the interest?

After three months without interest payments, the item given as collateral may be sold at auction under the applicable legislation.

Loja do Ouro will seek to contact the customer beforehand in order to try to find an appropriate solution.

Applicable legislation: Decree-Law no. 160/2015 and complementary legislation.

Can I take out a loan if I already have credit elsewhere?

Yes. This type of loan does not depend on an assessment of your bank credit history or on other credit agreements you may have with third parties.

Would you like an in-store valuation?
