The French 20 franc Ceres coin of 1851, in 21.6 ct gold (900‰), is a witness to French numismatic history. Struck during the Second Republic, its obverse depicts Ceres, goddess of agriculture, crowned with ears of grain, in a design by engraver Louis Merley. On the reverse, the denomination of 20 francs and the year 1851 are surrounded by a laurel and oak wreath, alongside the French motto “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité”.
